I'm not going to pretend January was easy…
The days were short. Seattle was gray. The ski season has been underwhelming at best. I stayed consistent with posting, got out when I could, kept showing up. But beneath the surface? It was a grind.
I was catching up with a couple buddies over the weekend. Shuffleboard, a couple beers, nothing fancy. And we both admitted it: January just takes something out of you.
Then something shifted.
The days are stretching again. Sunset pushed past 5pm last week. It's not spring. It's not even close. But you can feel the turn starting. That's enough.
The 90-Day Runway
Here's how I think about February: it's the start of a 90-day runway.
Ninety days from now, I'll be wing foiling and wake foiling regularly. I'll be on the water more than off it. The season I've been waiting for will be here. But whether I show up ready for it depends on what I do right now.
This isn't about getting beach body ready. I don't care about that. It's about function. Power to weight ratio. Joint health. The ability to paddle out, hike up, or ride longer without my body fighting me the whole way.
If I want to do more of what I love this summer, I have to earn it now. That's the trade.
The Honest Part
Here's what I've noticed: when I put in the work during these months, I don't just perform better. I'm happier. Not because I dropped a few pounds or look different in photos. Because I did something for myself. I invested in the thing that makes me feel most alive.
That feeling is worth the early mornings and the days you don't want to show up.
So that's February. The runway starts now. What are you building toward?
