Block the Calendar.
If you don't block your calendar, it won't happen.
As a married father of three, I learned this long ago. Planning trips needs to happen early. Family trips, solo trips, trips with the buddies. All of it. Because life is busy. Busy enough that you can go an entire year without going anywhere.
The off season is when the planning happens. It starts with the shared calendar. A negotiation session with my wife. A squint at what the money situation looks like. Then you expand outward to the buddies, who have to run the same negotiation with their people. Schedules get compared. Dates get locked. Deposits get put down.
The net result is a killer adventure. But the planning work? Non-negotiable.
Friction Points
Outside of trip planning, I take inventory of friction points. In those moments that I didn't accept an invite to get on the water, didn't practice guitar, didn't do my Duolingo session. Why?
While some of this may require a comfortable couch, sometimes it's physical layout. Is my garage set up for quick load and unload of gear? Is my guitar out of its case in a room I spend time in? Have I budgeted time for learning?
To take physical gear as an example, not only do I ensure it's a fast load, I double check to make sure my travel kit is ready. This includes:
- Repair kit for handheld wing
- Extra screws for each part in the foil kit
- Solar resin to fix a board if damage happens on site
- Leashes
My goal: I want to be able to pack, whether it's down the street or to the airport, in less than 15 minutes.
2026 On The Calendar
This year, Half-Life is doing something different.
We've always shared the adventures. The photos, the videos, the stories. But this year we're opening the door wider. These trips aren't just mine. They're ours. Some are open to the community. Some are small crew only. But the point is the same: we're building something where the calendar isn't just content for you to watch. It's an invitation.
Here's what's on the books:
- La Ventana: 2/8 to 2/16 (and Wing Foil) 2/10 to 2/12 (Free Dive Class)
- Jackson Hole: dates TBD (Ski)
- Maui, Spring: dates TBD (Tow/Prone/Wing Foil and Pickleball)
- Gorge: dates TBD (Wing Foil, Mountain Bike, Golf)
- Chicama: Oct 2026 (Tow Foil)
- Costa Rica: dates TBD (Tow Foil)
- Maui: dates TBD
