He Didn't Get Hurt This Winter
I got a note back from one of you last week that stopped me.
Patrick wrote in to share his story. He's been doing this a long time. Skiing, foiling, winging, surfing, tennis, padel, offroad racing, horseback. The kind of guy who does not pick one thing and go deep, he picks everything and goes hard. Wisconsin dad. Competitive sailor. Nationally ranked sixth out of two hundred boats this year.
A year ago he was holding the stair railing every morning just to get downstairs. Still an elite athlete. Still showing up six days a week. But in constant pain.
He didn't stop training. He changed how he trained. Reduced muscle mass, focused on mobility, added neural work and sports psychology. Nine months later, the railing was gone.
And here is the line that got me. He said his proudest moment this past winter was that he didn't get hurt.
Think about that. A guy who hucks cliffs and races sailboats and foils big waves, and what mattered most to him was making it through a season healthy. Not a personal best. Not a highlight reel. Just his body holding up when he asked it to perform across half a dozen sports in the span of a few months.
That is what this runway produces. Not just fitness. Durability. The ability to say yes to whatever the season throws at you and trust that your body will be there for it.
Spring equinox is this week. The light has officially turned. Whatever you are riding into this spring, whether it is water, snow, trails, courts, or all of the above like Patrick, the work you did this winter is either going to show up for you or it is not. There is no faking it once the season starts.
If you are feeling ready, trust that. If you are feeling behind, you still have time. But the window to prepare is closing and the window to perform is opening. Make sure you're ready.

P.S. Patrick also mentioned that neural training and sports psychology changed his game significantly. If that is something this crew wants to hear more about, let me know. We are always looking for the next thing that actually works.
