90 Days
Every now and then I stop moving long enough to realize how good I've got it.
Yesterday was Earth Day. I spent most of it outside, which is not exactly unusual for me. But it hit different this time. Over the years, this thing has taken me to some incredible places. French Polynesia. Baja. Costa Rica. Alaskan Surf Breaks. The mountains in Japan. Maui at sunrise. I've watched humpback whales surface ten feet from a boat. I've foiled waves that form the same way they did a thousand years before anyone thought to ride them. Reefs that took centuries to build. Coastlines that look exactly the way they're supposed to when nobody messes with them.
None of that belongs to me. None of it belongs to anyone. These places shape how I see the world. They humble me. They constitute my definition of spirituality. Time outside in the water or hiking on land increases my attention and brings me peace. It inspires me to want to preserve and leave it better for my three daughters and their kids if they decide to have them one day.
The older I get, the more I realize how important these moments are to me. People ask things of us. Jobs ask more of us. Your phone asks for your attention. The ocean just gives you a wave and lets you figure out what to do with it.
I think the only appropriate response to that is to keep showing up. Not to take from it. To be in it. To bring other people into it. To make sure your kids see it before they decide the world is just a screen. To make sure the person sitting next to you on the plane who says "I've always wanted to try that" actually tries it.
That's what Half-Life is, if I'm being honest. It's not a particular product, lesson, or experience. It's a commitment to keep showing up. For the water. For the trails. For the crew. For the people who welcome you when you land somewhere new. And for yourself.
We started something 90 days ago. A training runway. The idea was to build physically and mentally in the off-season so you'd be ready when the season arrived. Not hoping. Not scrambling. Just ready.
I don't know what your 90 days looked like. Maybe you trained harder than you expected. Maybe you finally dialed in your gear. Maybe you just showed up on the days you didn't feel like it, and those turned out to be the ones that mattered most. Maybe you got stuck in the starting blocks but thought a lot about starting…that's ok too. We got you!
Whatever it was, it compounded. You don't feel it day to day. You feel it when you look back and realize the person who started this thing in February is not the person standing here now.
The runway built the foundation. The season is the house. We're just getting started.
The sun came up yesterday and I didn't have to convince myself to go outside. That's the whole point of everything we're doing here. Not a finish line. Just a life where the default is movement and the people around you get it.
Today and every day. Protect what moves you.
Thanks for being on this runway with us.

There's some new gear in the store we're really proud of. Foil Club. Surf Club. Racquet Club. Take a look.
Until next Thursday.
All the best,
